GTA V launches on PC today - but username bug means some players won't get to install it

After a long wait, PC gamers are finally able to get their hands on Grand Theft Auto V today - but a teething bug involving Windows usernames rendered the game unplayable for some.
Developer Rockstar said it is aware of the issue and is working to fix it. In the meantime, any players with Windows usernames containing irregular characters are at risk of an error message interrupting the download and stopping the game from installing properly.
Rockstar's advice for the impatient in the meantime is to create a brand new administrator password for your Windows system that only includes the letters A-Z and the numbers 0-9.
"Please note that simply renaming your current User Account will not correct this issue," wrote the games company on its support page .

"Once your new account is created (or if you already have an account that only uses these characters) we recommend you restart your PC and log in with that account before starting or continuing with the installation process."
It's a slight glitch on the day that many PC gamers have been looking forward to since Grand Theft Auto launched on consoles back in September 2013.
Along with the main game, the PC version also showcases a new Director Mode that lets gamers capture footage from the game and play around with camera angles as well as characters themselves in order to make in-game movies.
Which is just window dressing on a game that many consider to be one of the best ever made.
"For once, it’s safe to believe the hype: as we stand on the cusp of a new era in console gaming, GTA V isn’t just the greatest entry in one of its great series, it’s also one of the entire medium’s most accomplished and amazing achievements to date," we wrote in our review back in 2013 .
Along with the main game, Grand Theft Auto Online has also been released for the PC, letting gamers participate in multiplayer shootouts and car chases.
The main game is available to download from Steam for £39.99
