THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY
A VIDEO which shows two police officers brutally beating and kicking prisoner in a holding cell has caused outrage and shock in Cyprus.
The ten minute film posted online, is understood to have been captured by CCTV at Polis police station, north of Paphos, on February 10, 2014 .
After entering the cell, one of the officers lurches towards the prisoner and begins a sustained attack with a truncheon.
Seconds prior to the attack, the prisoner can be seen with his arms stretched out, as if pleading with the law enforcement official.
Soon after the prisoner appears unresponsive and the beating is halted.
The origin of the film remains unclear, but the video has been dubbed as ‘shameful’ by the Minister of Justice, who is expected to make a statement.
According to reports, the Minister has said the police officers will be suspended and prosecuted.
