Cyprus celebrates Europe Day...

A delightful combination of knowledge and fun is the main feature of this year’s celebration of Europe Day in Cyprus on Saturday, May 9, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., in Acropolis Park, in Nicosia.

The Office of the European Parliament and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus and the Press and Information Office invite people of all ages to get a taste of Europe –figuratively and literally.

Info points will provide information on EU funding, employment and education programs and Embassies of EU member states will offer information on their countries and traditional food and drink.

A live link by Love FM with presenters Tasos Triphonos and Christiana Artemiou, live music and dancing, DJ, a photography exhibition with tangible examples of benefits derived by Cyprus’ EU accession and the rights enjoyed by Cypriots as EU citizens, a charity bazaar, a kids’ corner and many other surprises will compose the scene of a true celebration for Europe.

Europe Day is celebrated every year throughout the EU on May 9. The date marks the anniversary of the historic speech given in Paris on May 9, 1950, by the French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, who set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would prevent war between Europe’s nations.

His proposal is considered to be the beginning of what now is the EU.

Europe Day gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate the ideas and values, on which the EU is founded, and all that unites us as Europeans.

This year's event on Europe Day in Cyprus is carried out with the support of Strovolos Municipality and is open to the public.
