2009: A Protocol on Tourism Cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the Peoples Republic of China was signed in Beijing by the Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Antonis Paschalides and the Director of Chinas National Tourism Administration, Shao Qiwei.

2005: US State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher has said there is no legal prohibition against US citizens travelling to Cyprus' northern Turkish occupied areas, adding that ''we certainly encourage congressional delegations to go out in the world and find out about situations that they're interested in''.

2002: UN Secretary General Kofi Annan arrives here early afternoon for a "working visit" in the framework of the good offices mission entrusted to him by the Security Council, the UN has has announced.

The Secretary General will meet "HE Mr Glafcos Clerides and HE Mr Rauf Denktash in their capacities as Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders, respectively," a UN press release said.

2000: Miss Universe 2000, Miss India Lara Dutta, last night was presented with a reproduction of the Greek Mythology golden apple given to Aphrodite in Cyprus in 1000 BC, at the Coronation Ball held here. At a special farewell ceremony at the Hilton hotel, in the capital Nicosia, the 21-year-old economist and daughter of a pilot was presented with the golden apple, designed by Mykimoto with a cultured pearl on its stem.

1997: Canada's contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for almost 30 years, has been held in high regard by locals, even through some of the island's darkest times during the 1974 Turkish invasion.

1997: The Orthodox Church of Cyprus has donated land to the Russian Orthodox Church, in the southern coastal town of Limassol, to build a church where Russians, residing or visiting Cyprus, will exercise their religious duties. The agreement was signed today at the Archbishopric in Nicosia, by the Primate of the Cyprus Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos, and Archbishop Sergius, on behalf of the Moscow Patriarchate
